Popular is a community-first Astro theme for meetups, user groups and small
events. It is built for the person who runs the group: the one keeping the
calendar, chasing a venue, and welcoming newcomers at the door.
What your community gets
- Events with times, venues, speakers, RSVP links and status badges, plus a calendar feed people can subscribe to
- A blog with authors, guest authors, tags and filtering
- Organizer, speaker and venue profiles that link to one another
- An organizer handbook and meetup runbooks, with tick-off checklists that remember where you left off
- A home page you compose from sections, so it fits your community rather than the other way round
Make it yours from one file
Colours, fonts, navigation, footer and every piece of UI text live in your
config, so rebranding the site does not mean editing templates. Every string
sits in the same place, which is also how you translate it.
Built to be a good citizen
- No third-party requests. Fonts and icons are served by your own site, so no visitor's IP address goes to a CDN, and the theme sets no cookies.
- Accessible by default: meaningful alt text is enforced in CI, plus skip links and semantic landmarks.
- Structured data and feeds: JSON-LD for events, posts and your organization, RSS, a sitemap, and an llms.txt summary.
- Works at a domain root or under a project subpath without rewriting links.
You install it as a package rather than copying it, so updating is one
dependency bump. Community sites outlive their organizers, and a site the
next person can update is a site that survives the handover.
