Pilcrow Pro is a typography-first Astro theme for writers who publish essays, notes, and newsletters, and want the site to grow past a blog: a newsletter page, docs, a portfolio, pricing. It builds to static HTML; hierarchy comes from type, measure, and spacing, not from boxes and color.
How it reads
- Newsreader for text at about 65 characters a line, Inter for the interface, JetBrains Mono for code
- One rubric red for links, the pilcrow mark, and a drop cap at the start of each post
- Footnotes move into the margin as sidenotes on wide screens
- Dark mode, works down to 360px wide
Pro features
- 20 home page sections to build the front page from
- Pages: Pricing, Features, Team, Newsletter, Changelog, Docs, Work, Cookies, and Accessibility, on top of Home, About, Blog, Contact, Privacy, and Terms
- Blog: authors, series, table of contents, reading time, related posts, callouts, and a copy-code button
- Pagefind search, and localized routes with a language switcher and hreflang
- A generated Open Graph image for every post
- Buttondown or Kit newsletter sign-up, Giscus comments, and in-page form submission
- Four color presets and three font pairings
Under the hood
- Astro 7 and Tailwind CSS v4, no client-side JavaScript by default, Lighthouse 95+
- Static output: deploy to Cloudflare Pages, Vercel, or Netlify
- Everything site-specific lives in one file, src/config.ts
- AGENTS.md, Cursor rules, and Claude Code skills for AI-assisted editing
